A person could sell quite a bit of records like this back in the 1970s. I call it the "confused parents" syndrome. Or "confused grandparents" syndrome, if the fan was very young.

Here's how it used to work: The holidays approach. Or maybe a birthday. Parents/grandparents know young fan is fond of a certain artist. So they visit a record store and see an album with the artists' name on it... and buy it as a surprise gift without knowing the details.

And then when the young fan opens their present... disappointment. The record gets played maybe once and is then tossed aside, but the sale has been made and Mr. Cash is happy. And then a few months later the record gathers dust in a Goodwill store.

Maybe the scam still works, if parents/grandparents don't know how to research the details online. But probably not as often as it did in the 1970s.
