 I believe they are a fan, but there is the difference between obsessive or compulsive buying compared to genuine interest.

Some buy a CD and enjoy it, then there are those who buy over 500 CDs of ex. Buddy and keep it sealed. I believe that particular mentality of fans are starting to find out no one else shares their interest and I see ebay full of large collections of certain artists, while still expecting top dollar. I suspect most of these collections will end up in a dumpster or be a local library donation when their children (if any, rarely) have no interest or the space.
