As I recall, he was found slumped under the wheel of his car, soaked in petrol and he had also swallowed a lot of petrol (gas) as well. Clearly, this was NOT accidental.
Who drinks gas to commit suicide? No, there was/is far more to this than meets the eye. There have been many stories of mob involvement...was Bobby messing around with a gangsters moll? Did his manager have debts and this was the result? Who knows? (Somebody must do, but then again, so long since it happened, perhaps all have passed?)
Will we ever know the truth? No, I doubt it. Bill Griggs was always keen on a biopic of Bobby Fuller being made, just so he could see how the ending would be carried out and portrayed. But it never was, and never will be.
Sam Cooke's death is equally as confusing and a mystery. So many things that dont add up, such as Sam Cooke going to some random cheap motel with a hooker, and yet withesses claiming they saw his wife, Barbara, close by. And his red Ferrari sports car, found in the parking lot with the doors wide open and the engine running. I mean, what the hell?
Bobby and Sam had the same manager, who had also managed Ritchie Valens. Obviously Valens death was an accident, but Bobby's death and Sam's death were both so bizarre and in Cooke's case, seemingly out of character (family and friends have never bought the cheap motel and hooker storyline) Another strange connection to both deaths is that both frequented the same nightclub...which was also a hangout for the mob. They quite possibly trod on some very dangerous toes.
