I suppose he may have been "expensive" by Surf Ballroom standards, but I doubt he was all that expensive in the grander scheme of things...

It's not like he's somebody like Neil Diamond, by that I mean someone who may not have had a hit in a long time but could sell out larger venues and with no problems selling tickets...
(PS- I know Neil's not touring anymore, I just used him as an example).

The biggest reason Don would be there is to sing "American Pie"... He could probably could have gone there, sang that song, and went home and a good percentage of the audience would have been happy... No doubt some in the crowd would like his other stuff, but "American pie" would have been the only reason he really would have been there.

Not saying the guy has not talent or anything like that, but at this time in his career, he's probably a third tier draw-Someone who could do okay in smaller auditoriums and the like-He's certainly not one of the higher priced legacy acts.
