My apologies. I should have taken note that you did not begin that aspect of the thread.

I guess it's also not my job to defend Don McLean, even though I do feel he is one of the less celebrated greats of American songwriting.

As an olive branch, I offer a link to an obscure song, clearly influenced by Buddy, and recorded by a forgotten past member of a superstar pure americana band.
