Ironical that this coming Friday 13th is the 50th Anniversary of King Curtis being stabbed to death on his doorstep outside his apartment building in New York on Friday 13 August 1971.

According to Bill in my Buddy Holly Day by Day books, on Wednesday 10 September 1958 King Curtis flew from New York to Amarillo where Buddy and the boys picked him up and drove to Clovis.

I've read where another famous Sax player, fellow Texan, Bobby Keys says he collected Curtis and took him to the studio? Bobby would be almost 15 years of age at the time, but had been driving awhile. I understand back then you could get a drivers licence in Texas at 13 or 14?

King Curtis played on 'Reminiscing' & 'Come Back Baby' for Buddy & the two songs for Waylon which Buddy produced for his Prism label.

Where any photos taken during these sessions of Buddy, Norman, the boys with King Curtis? Norman and Buddy seemed to photograph everything, or in Norman's case filmed everything with his cine camera, so I'd have thought an opportunity like this wouldn't be missed? Has anyone seen any photos from this session?

I've listened a lot to King Curtis. He was a fine guitar player, more in the style of Buddy Guy and an able singer. Nowhere in his catalogue have I come across anything he wrote or sang that was similar to 'Reminiscing', so I'd tend to think Buddy wrote it and assigned the credit to him in lieu of payment as I believe Curtis only received a nominal recording fee for that days work.

Any thoughts, response would be most welcome.
