 From what I understand, the Bopper wanted to save up enough money from songwriting royalties to own his own radio station.

I think that's where he would have ended up. Running a bunch of country music radio stations, and eventually moving into talk radio. If he'd been successful he probably would have bought some local TV stations as well, and cut syndication deals.

Maybe he would have launched a C&W alternative to MTV in the 1980s.
