You don't think "Cindy Lou" could have been a nickname, do you? I can see Buddy singing it to the toddler, regardless of whether or not "Lou" was her middle name. "Lou" certainly opens up the rhyming dictionary possibilities when writing a song.

Every account I've ever read regarding the original version of "Peggy Sue" indicates the song, at the least the original title, was taken from Buddy's niece, much in the same way that "Hey, Jude" was actually written with John Lennon's son Julian in mind.

Given that there appears to be no photos, interviews, or any real effort to track her down over the years, maybe it truly was a name that fit a song, and not inspired by any specific person. Not that a toddler would have any memory of the song, but it just seems like if it were truly originally about her, that story would have been passed on to her, possibly over and over, as "Peggy Sue" is one of the truly iconic songs of the Rock-n-Roll era.
