What you say is basically right. However, I differ slightly in the circumstances.

He was not shopping the song around as you say but was asked by Peter Asher (Peter) if he had any songs they could record?

Del told them about 'I Go To Pieces' and the rest they say is history.

In his lifetime Del recorded this song four times and was NEVER happy with any of them until he recorded his last album with Jeff Lynne from ELO.

To me his best Lp.

I have four Demos and another 4 recordings of this song here somewhere.

I met Del (Charles Weedon Westover) quite a few times as he regularly visited Australia. Nice man but quite dark sometimes.

He would not go on stage until he had his money in cash!

I wrote an article about him joining up with The Crickets quite a while ago and he really enjoyed it. This was in the late 1980's on his last tour.

My wife and i visited his hometown of Coopersville a couple of times and he is still known there as Chuck! Short for Charles.
