I am sad to share that according to a report, Gary D. Tollett of The Tollett’s has passed away in Arizona tonight at the age of 86.

Gary and his wife Ramona along with Niki Sullivan provided the background vocals on the “That’ll Be The Day” song, recorded in February of 1957, and later became the smash debut single of The Crickets. It was this song and arrangement that propelled the Jukebox Operators of America to vote The Crickets as “Most Promising Vocal Group of 1957” in Cashbox magazine.

Gary was a good friend to Buddy Holly and The Crickets and to anyone who enjoyed that era of music. He was a dear, dear person and a gentleman in every definition. He will be sorely missed.
