[> Well there ya go, 6 diff. winners!!! Why would you want to think about changing the rules??? I went thru all this 3 years when Jimmy & LC were winning EVERY race, 2 or 3 guys came up with ways to slow the fastest guys down to there speed and they beat on me for months to make a change. And 1 of the ideas then was to add weight for running more than X faster than the other cars etc. etc.....I polled all the racers 1 at a time and the MAJORITY said; "leave the rules alone, we will build to them, if Spot can do it so can we" And they did!!!! 6 different winners this year should say it all! Adjustments to the rules at year end like changing the weight for 2 carbs or sheetmetal intake or another specific modification is 1 thing but adding weight to keep it close will only slow down the whole class in the end.......just my thoughts.... -- Mike Morgan, 10/ 7/06 9:27am

[> [> MIke I really appreciate you weighing in on this. As you know, it's extremely difficult to convey the complete message/idea without being face to face. The "adjustment" idea came from the man who is currently the quickest car (after 1 weekend out with his combo). Joe Pigford has more experience than anyone in the class when it comes to EXTREMELY expensive racing; ie, Comp elim, and PS truck. When a man (who will lose some of his advantage over the field) suggests that we consider something to inhibit 6 figure spending....well, maybe it's worth a thought. He and a few others can afford it but the majority of the class can't or won't. Price some of the exotic engine stuff that's out there, ceramics, titanium, composites, and our $30K or so motors could cost double or triple that. As I posted, it's just an idea and each member should voice his opinion. -- when do you want your old job back?....LOL....DH, 10/ 7/06 12:17pm

[> Here's my two pennies. The "adjustment" idea was hashed over a long time ago and that was when the cars were separated by 5 tenths instead of 5 hundreths and no one wanted it then. If you really want to tighten the field up then get rid of the delay boxes, air & electric shifters. Now the driver has to DRIVE THE CAR! No electronic gizmos, just man and machine. And if you're concerned about high dollar parts getting into the mix, then simply outlaw them. There.....all fixed. If you need anything else, you know where to find me....hehehe -- Mr. Big Knows All, 10/ 9/06 1:35pm

Big has some good idea`s!If you make us shift and no delay box would make it a more tuner/driver class like the NHRA Pro Stock guys do!!!!! If there are specific parts to
outlaw within reason, thats not a bad idea.On the weight issue, there are always going to be the fastest, the ones who want to be the fastest, and the slowest that want to be faster.Over the last two years no one wanted to draw DH 1st round because you are going on the trailer most of the time,he was the fastest.I believe that it made everyone else work harder on their combo`s rather than say I can`t do it.Now that someone IS faster that really should`nt change anything. We now have a tighter field and more cars coming out that will make the best show ever for the fans which is what makes our purse.I am not going to spend 75k on a motor and until someone does and discourage half of the field to quit I think we are on the right course the way it is.

[> [> Keeping the rules the way they are and eliminateing the Delay Boxes and all the (Bracket Racing) electronics air & electric shifters would definitely level the playing field and then we will see who can REALLY DRIVE! -- Great Idea!, 10/10/06 9:23am

[> [> [> A delay box can't improve rt. With 1000+ hp, & the chassis dialed in these cars will go red anytime. If your TPSA car won't redlite, chances are there is still work to do on the chassis. Lee Staiger has worked on his car all year, and now that the chassis is close he's red without the 'box. In the final @ PVR, he had .015 delay in and still went .393 red. He needed .022 in the 'box to go .400 green. Not to single Lee out, but his story is typical. If you take the 'boxes out, the savvy racers who have cars that react (& 60' well) will simply use Comp and Super Stock "tricks" to avoid redlites. As far as auto shifters go....without them you can short shift if you're loose or track conditions dictate (an option even with A/S) or carry the shift higher if the track is tighter than you thought. With auto shift the rpm/time at which the shift takes place is pre determined BEFORE the pass (just like delay is set PRIOR to the run) and if you miss the set up your et (or rt) will suffer. Also, -- when running finals @ 2am, in heavy dew, A/S could be a safety feature that allows driving with both hands. Finally, you guys that think a driver with massive amounts of delay in a car, that cuts consistantly good lites, can't "REALLY DRIVE" well..... [Edit]

[> Hmmm............"A delay box can't improve rt." Interesting statement. If a delay box does not improve reaction time, then why use it? If the sole purpose of the box is to avoid a redlight, isn't that an "improvement'? -- Mr. Big S##tstarter hehehe, 10/12/06 2:50pm

[Edit]

[> [> technically speaking no......webster's says "to make better" which in this case (referring to rt) would be quicker and/or faster...not slower. In general, when you hear discussions regarding the 'box, 9 times out of 10, someone is conviced they magically create perfect lites by being tied to the 'tree, lite sensors, etc. The 'box's only purpose in life is to delay the release of the trans brake. If you don't need one fine, but the facts are the car/driver that NEEDS a 'box is performing (driving) better than the one that doesn't . Nice try though, and play again anytime.......LOL. -- you coming out Sat, Big?.............DH, 10/12/06 9:25pm
