Here's my two pennies. The "adjustment" idea was hashed over a long time ago and that was when the cars were separated by 5 tenths instead of 5 hundreths and no one wanted it then. If you really want to tighten the field up then get rid of the delay boxes, air & electric shifters. Now the driver has to DRIVE THE CAR! No electronic gizmos, just man and machine. And if you're concerned about high dollar parts getting into the mix, then simply outlaw them. There.....all fixed. If you need anything else, you know where to find me....hehehe
Keeping the rules the way they are and eliminateing the Delay Boxes and all the (Bracket Racing) electronics air & electric shifters would definitely level the playing field and then we will see who can REALLY DRIVE! -- Great Idea!, 10/10/06 9:23am 
A delay box can't improve rt. With 1000+ hp, & the chassis dialed in these cars will go red anytime. If your TPSA car won't redlite, chances are there is still work to do on the chassis. Lee Staiger has worked on his car all year, and now that the chassis is close he's red without the 'box. In the final @ PVR, he had .015 delay in and still went .393 red. He needed .022 in the 'box to go .400 green. Not to single Lee out, but his story is typical. If you take the 'boxes out, the savvy racers who have cars that react (& 60' well) will simply use Comp and Super Stock "tricks" to avoid redlites. As far as auto shifters go....without them you can short shift if you're loose or track conditions dictate (an option even with A/S) or carry the shift higher if the track is tighter than you thought. With auto shift the rpm/time at which the shift takes place is pre determined BEFORE the pass (just like delay is set PRIOR to the run) and if you miss the set up your et (or rt) will suffer. Also, -- when running finals @ 2am, in heavy dew, A/S could be a safety feature that allows driving with both hands. Finally, you guys that think a driver with massive amounts of delay in a car, that cuts consistantly good lites, can't "REALLY DRIVE" well.....
