Author: wondering?
Subject: I was wondering has the TPSA rules people ever considered giving nostalagia cars (i.e. 1st generation camaros, older vettes, shoeboxes, etc.) a weight break so that there is diversity in the cars other than paint jobs? When you all started it was cool to se the older cars racing beside the new body styles. Now with everybody getting the new Ness, Bickel, RJ cars it seems this diversity is slowly going away. I know that you have to upgrade to get the new technology that is available, but maybe if you give the older cars say a 50-100 lb. break they could overcome the disadvantage that they have. Thanks.

[> Thanks for the post and you know anything regarding weight will get a response on this board!!......LOL. Your idea is interesting, and diversity does make the class more interesting. Do you have a car that would fit in this catagory? I'd like to hear more on your idea......shoot me an email with your contact info and I'll give you a call. -- DH, 10/19/06 4:04pm

Mr. Hubbard I do not have a car for this class. I have a good friend that is building a car for next year. I would just like to see the TPSA continue, so I was sitting around as a fan wondering what makes a car a hot rod. One thing I thought of was when a person sees a '06 GTO, Cav, etc. going down the road is hot rod the first thing that crosses their mind? If your like me probably not, now if you cruising down the road and a '57 chevy, '63 split-window, or even '34 coupe goes by if your like me you break you neck to check it out. Now the new cars are fantastic example of how far human engineering can take a person, and these cars are out of this world and dang fast. But where in the racing world can a person sit their behinds in the stand and watch 2 cars from 2 different generations go through the water box and line up heads-up pro tree baddest car wins? I can't think of very many places this can happen but organizations like yours are the ones that allow the lovers of new and old to witness the coming together of the different generations. Now I know I have no vested interest in any of this and you can tell me to get off your message board, but the weight break for the nostalgia cars would be a neat idea from a promotional aspect. Imagine the headlines "Sunday,Sunday,Sunday come see '06 GTO's, Cavaliers, etc. heads-up against a '63 Split-windows, '57 Chevy's, etc. in a all motor dogfight to prove who is the biggest dog on the block!!". All of this may not be doable, but just a thought from a heads-up fan. Sorry for the long post and thank you.

[> How about we do it by how MUCH the car cost ? The class started out with super gas cars and went crazy from there . I guess if you cant tune a car or build horse power then just go spend 50 to 60 grand on a car BOOM your there ! -- average man ., 10/20/06 8:25am

[> [> I have a old s/g car and did ok this year in it . The class is so much fun to race the way it is set up . I do wish the class would have stayed full of s/g cars but it did not . There will always be ideas of ways to change the rules to ( keep things competitive ) but lets face it heads up classes always end up being about the $$$$$ . The rules work the way they are !!!!! I will get my old s/g car back on the track and give her hell !! If it ait fast enough then its back to the drawing board . -- The rules are FINE !!!, 10/20/06 8:42am

[> Rootbeer Nationals -- Mr.T, 10/20/06 9:04pm

YES, If I am running this class next season the Rootbeer Nationals will be held again and free floats for all that come by. My wife, daughter and mom enjoy doing these things cause it makes them feel a part of the happenings and they are just good people. The only reason I wont be here is I too need to step up performance, but dont want to spend an arm and leg to do it. I would love to have a new GTO, Cavalier or Grand Am. These new cars are worth some ET. It is not my nature to not be competitive, just like the rest of the great racers in this class. I will take the down time to evaluate my program and monitor the rest of the group to see what they do and if I can stay with in .05 I will be back, if not, Racingjunk here I come.

[> ok would a 71 vega(74 nose clip) fit into this ? -- DDBBCVEGA, 10/27/06 11:24am

since we are coming into the class next year this is a real question I know I'm not that old of a car but I don't have the aero dynamic of a new camaro(i.e. top guns of the class)?
we dont have a high buck chassis or new style body .....maybe a 25 lbs weight break ?
just curious
