***It wasn't the Saturn eclipse......and other ramblings from the top..***

Those of you who missed the "mine shaft" air quality at Houston Raceway Park last Saturday probably lost out on the best overall conditions of the year. A huge bracket turn out kept the track tight and sticky, and with the DA averaging 1500 ft., VP hovering at the 250 mark, sunny skies, low humidity, and temp's in the 60's, personal best ET's were guaranteed. Only three TPSA teams took advantage of the opportunity: Ashabranner, Hubbard, and Pigford. At the end of the day, Ashabranner had run a career best of 4.85 @ 142+, Hubbard a 4.73 @ 146+, and Pigford, with his new Reher Morrison piece, had bragging rights with a 4.71 @ 147+.

The antique and outdated et predicter that I use for air calculations showed the air in Baytown was .05 to .07 BETTER than the last race (Oct 14th) at HMP. Last month at HMP, Ashabranner ran a best of 4.93 @140.63, Hubbard 4.80 @ 143 and Pigford was running a different engine (actually the one DH had in the rails in Baytown) so a direct comparison can't be made. When we do the math, (based on air conditions alone), Mr T ran .08 faster, and DH (with a different bullet but same basic HP) ran .07 faster at HRP than they did at HMP. This means, if you had been at HRP, you could have expected to run .05 to .07 quicker than you did at HMP ***IF YOUR CHASSIS WAS TUNED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA HP MADE AVAILABLE BY THE ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS***. Contrary to the pit pundits and the rumor mill, quantum leaps in performance didn't occur, nor did technology mysteriously pass you by in the nite. The facts are always so boring and not nearly as much fun as speculation and rumors!

On another topic, hopefully by now you've noticed the Banquet information. A couple of folks have asked for some details so here's a short FAQ section:

Question: How much is the Banquet costing?
Answer: The per person cost is around $32.00. We're planning on about 100 folks showing up so it's roughly $3200.00. The per person price charged at the door is $10 and there will be a child's rate available. The difference (about $2200.00) will be paid from the TPSA general fund.

Question: I've heard rumors of a points fund. What's the real deal?
Answer: The idea was to surprise the top ten with an unexpected bonus at the Banquet. Yes, there is a $4500.00 points fund to be distributed among the top ten. And of course, trophies, special awards, and the customary jacket for the Champion.

Question: What is the purse structure going to be in 2007?
Answer: Exact details aren't available at this time and are variable. As an example, if TPSA decides to not hold a Banquet next year, those funds could be used to increase purse's. As previously posted, round money winnings (as well as entry fees) will be the same next year. The winner and runner-up payout will be increased. We paid the same runner up money (or more) as the other Houston based series' did this year, but the winner received a smaller percentage to make the round money available. The only exception to this was the HRP race where the additional funds were put into the purse (ask Don Holcomb..he won the largest purse of the year)...LOL. Remember, except for our great sponsors, we are a self funded group. If you own a company, have contacts that might be interested in being involved with the TPSA, or have any ideas to increase marketing opportunities for us, please don't hestitate to share them. We will have a short business meeting at the start the Banquet to get your opinion on a variety of topics.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Sponsors that made 2006 a reality for the TPSA: TCI, Houston Engine & Balancing, Colony One, Conrad's, Scoggin-Dickey Performance Center, Rutland Transmission, and Platt Bros Racing. In addition, our sincere appreciation to the tracks and management that provided great venues where we could play: Angleton, Houston Motorsports Park, Houston Raceway Park, Pine Valley Raceway, San Antonio Raceway, and Temple Raceway. On a personal note, my thanks to the racers, family, crew, and fans that make the TPSA so enjoyable!

That's it for now. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, complaints, etc., please contact me directly. Donald, Rick, or Eddie wouldn't mind you contacting them if you prefer....except maybe for the complaints...LOL.

Get out and make some laps with your hotrod so you'll be ready when the '07 season starts! See ya at the Banquet.
