Down the page there's mention of the legendary "SPOT" and it's place in the history of TPSA. That story wouldn't be complete without mentioning the "shoebox" of David Baldwin.The year was 2003 and the '55 and Spot had a titanic battle for the championship all year long with the points lead going back and forth between these two teams.

DH got by his old friend, Jimmy Phillips and Spot,(owned by Larry Camp) in the final @ Temple on a fluke when Spot didn't shift out of low gear. Jimmy had DH covered like a blanket in ET (around .15, if my memory's correct) but got a bad break. No one knew at the time what a pivotal round that would prove to be!

The season wound down and the championship would be decided at the last race of the year. Baldwin was ahead by 1 point (again trusting memory) and Jimmy and Spot were ready to take it to the wire! Unfortunately the rains came, the race was cancelled, not re-scheduled, and the championship was awarded to Baldwin. It was an anti-climatic finish to a year long battle.

Following that race, Camp sold SPOT to Matthews who races in the 4.70 index program, and Baldwin also went index racing (& some Top Sportsman too, I think). These days, Jimmy is shooting in Tournaments around the country, and Baldwin is still doing some racing. Those were two outstanding cars and more importantly, two great competitors. Maybe we'll see them back in TPSA someday?

[> That isnt the whole story. spot had NEVER been beat until a little ole punk small block firebird caught them with thier pants down at kennendale and got to the other end 1st. After that we came up with the "Spot Remover" joke and he was doomed LOL. They never were the same after that. -- JB, 06/28/06 12:26am
