Dave: Why do you think there WASN"T a misunderstanding? While I can see Jen's point about Harris being so engrossed in the scene that was taking place that he might not have been thinking about Guber, I find that hard to accept. IF Harris was "pulling a fast one", I think he would have been much more nervous than he was. (Of course, I realize as I type this that we don't reallly know the character all that well).

I was also disappointed that Steven didn't seem too upset. Perhaps he's too involved in his personal situation to care?

And in response to Dave's response about the science teacher being drafted to direct the play, I was under the impression from Guber and Harris' discussion that Harris initiated the idea of the play. (I may be reading into things).

As for Jen on the same topic: I know science teachers could have an interest in the arts (I have a sister who is a scientist, but would make a great standup comic or actress ), but like your experence it was always the English teachers who did this in my high school. it just seems highly improbable.

Also Jen, I find your take on Guber's objection to the play being about his probable discomfort with the subject matter very interesting. I just assumed he was protecting the school from controversy. In spite of his "hard line approach" and apparent conservatism, I've always thought of Guber as open to different people--just thinking of his anger when he accused Harvey of being a bigot. And his very controlled reaction to seeing Jeremy confirmed that for me. But now I may have to rethink that view...

As for the show taking liberties for shock value...isn't THAT the truth!
