Date Posted: 07/ 3/07 3:07:54pm Pit Bull's in Ohio Posted by Mike Pfeiffer on 7/3/2007, 2:03 pm I recently moved to Ohio and called my local dog warden on the laws of owing an APBT in Ohio. In my county, Medina Oh, this is what you must follow or your dog can be confiscated and put to sleep within 24hrs. Some parts of OH you cannot own a APBT. You must have at least a $100,000 policy per dog that has any pitbull like appearence or having any pitbull type bloodline, including Am Staffs. The policy can be obtained through Ohio Insurance Exchange 1-800-473-1215. Its expensive. The property must have a 6ft high fence, a kennel with tops, secure bottom, latch with lock, and the dog must be CHAINED inside the kennel. If the dog is being walked must be muzzled. I know this all sounds terrible, its so unfair as in this county its only the Pitbull. There are no laws like this for Presa, Rotts, Canary dogs, Chows ect. I find its unusual that the kennel does not have to be a certain gauge metal. In other words, an 11 gauge wire will not house a APBT. The cost of my 3 kennel runs with tops 5wX10h with 6 gauge (suitable for lions) WAS $2300.00 delivered and the fence 200ft, 6ft high and all 9 gauge wire with top/bottom poles $4000.00 installed so if your planning to own this breed in Oh be prepared to pay dearly for all the thugs that have ruined it for the loyal and responsible APBT owners. Oh, if you fail to meet the above requirements the dog can be confiscated and put to sleep. I'm sure more of this type of law will spread across to various states. In Colorado you cannot even own a Pit. I just recently lost my male rescue APBT that was 13 he was a great dog. I lost him due to old age. Please watch video's of Butch on www.cavalierk9.com in the video's he was 12 yrs old. God bless all APBT and responsible pit owners.
