Two quick notes, if I may be so bold:

1. Words mean things! And the use of words sometimes bring consequences. The consequences have nothing to do with the 1st Amendment per se. Natalie Maines of the Dipsy Twits has every right to opine (I disagree with her timing and place - it should have been here on American soil since it was a criticism of our President in a time of combat), but support her right to say what she will - I am a veteran and served to protect her right to free speech. In most of the world, it should also be noted, she would go to jail for what she said, but I digress.

Anyway, after stating her opinion, her fans have the right to theirs - i.e., to buy or not to buy, to listen or not to listen. Do we agree? No one is forced to continue as a fan if there is disagreement in opinion, politics, whatever. Tim Robbins and Susie Sarandon and others are also learning this lesson the hard way. They have the right to speak, and we have the right to shut them off - has nothing to do with the 1st Amendment right of free speech. Words mean things and have consequences, so the entertainment industry should weigh what it wants to say, so that consequences don't burst their over blown egos and deflate their pocketbooks of our cash. Plain and simple.

2. The pledge: I have no trouble with "under God" for several reasons. The Supreme Court, up to the last 50/60 years has said several times that we are a Christian based nation. Not a Christian nation, but a nation based on the principles found in the Bible. Many of our founders quoted extensively from the Bible, both to form our new government and to justify our revolution from Mother England. As a point of interest, after the Bible, the next most quoted person was William Blackstone - an English minister. So in my humble opinion, if a few atheists are upset - tough shit! This a Republic, governed by law, and 4% of the population can not/should not dictate to 96% to change.

Okay, I wasn't too quick - shoot me.
