Subject: Use It or Lose It

Friends -

Things have been very quiet here. If this isn't a service we want to use, we ought to just get out of the way and not clutter up the web (large thought it is) with unwanted and unused pages.

So, please speak up - if we want this place, we need to use it. After a certain amount of time without activity, Voyforums will simply cancel us. Please use this space, or if it is of not interest, let me know and I'll let it go.

Thanks,

N

It would be a shame to lose it, Ned.

You won't remember me (I actually do remember your name) as I only spent one full and one half academic year at Scarborough. I am the Hungarian lad who got part of his start in America at Scarborough. I will forever be grateful for that.

As for some of the topics which came up earlier, Mr. Haber's first name was Tom, I believe.

Sully went to Lebanon after Mr. Schuller did, around 1958. I met him there once, around 1970, or so, he had gotten married!

I am not sure exactly when the main school building was built, but it is my impression that the Music Box Theater was built in 1920. I read somewhere that the Beechwood theater was modelled after the Helen Hayes (or, at the time, Little) Theater built in 1912. The Beechwood theater was inagurated with a recital by Paderewski.

Whenever I am in the vicinity, I try to make a visit to Scarborough, spend a few moments reuniting with the momentos which remain... and feeling the loss of the ones that don't.

My best to all, and thanks, Ned.

Steve Galle

[> [> Nenad Cuic? -- Ned Depew, 17:53:03 08/05/05 Fri

Steve -

I well remember a young Hungarian boy who lived in Tarrytown near me, who had been adopted by two women. I remember going over to his house to play many times. His name was Nenad Cuic - I've never forgotten it, or him. In fact, I've tried to find him on the internet.

Is that you? If so, I'm very happy to have found you once again and look forward to hearing how you've fared in the intervening years. If not, well, I'm happy to make your acquaintance. What year were you there, and in what class?

I look forward to hearing more about your experiences at SCDS.

Best,

Ned

I knew a Nenad Cuic in Germany in 1947. His mother was Radojka Cuic, a proud Serbian (not Hungarian) and his brother Dankmar, later Chuck. They emigrated to Australia but eventually made it to USA where the mother was teaching French. Nenad worked for the Tennessee Authority, who could give you further info. You may also contact his niece at christinacuic@hotmail.com. I hope this helps.

well now ... i had the great pleasure of attending scarborough from the middle of my fourth grade till the end of sixth when the school closed ... have been searching for a way to find and reconnect with some of my friends and just found this site ... janey isreal whose mother was the librarian first and foremost ... but all the postings i am seeing are from people who actually got to graduate and many of them from before i was even born let alone attended ... i was there for the sadness of coach's passing ... and i have been back to tresspass illegally on the old schools grounds several times ... to wander under the elephant beechs or meander down to the stream where i can as it is now fenced off anywhere near either the upper or lower schools ... to meander in to see the downstairs art rooms and forge my way into the backstage area of the auditorium and down the sloping hallway into the gym and upstairs to the library ... they heave made it impossible to break into the lower school building anymore so can't visit there ... though i used to let myself in every morning since my bus dropped me off at least fifteen minutes before any staff member could do it for me ... what can i say ... i was very good at my b and e and it was just to get warm and dry ... everyone would turn a blind eye to my juvenile life of crime ... and as for people who mention work day ... i used to celebrate earth day before it ever existed by spending many of my recesses picking up litter from the stream that invariably blew in off of route 9 ... what can i say ... i was a born environmentalist ... and it gave me my alone/zen time ... i sincerely hope that you don't remove this site ... who knows ... maybe one day someone will remember me ...>Thanks,

Ned,
It would be a shame to shut down this page. For those of us who enjoy memories of Scarborough, it's a joy to relive life as we remember it. For most of us it was a great informative, learning, and growth process. I, for one, will be grateful for every experience I had in my four years there. Coach Simon, J. Fulton Main, Mrs. Creighton were some of the very talented and dedicated teachers that helped to shape my life. For that I'm grateful and I'd hate to see this page disappear.
Thanks,
Art Gilbert Class of 1961
