've seen a couple of references to Coach Russ Simon

I was amazed to find this site and to see your post. You may remember me as Cookie Gold and i do remember you and Johnny very very well!! I was class of 60.
Well a long time has passed since those extraordinary days at Scarbrough...i have been married to a man from Milan Italy for 35 years and have 3 grown children and 3 grandchldren- a fourth on the way..We live in Palm Bach Florida and summers in Brevard North Carolina but have lived all over the world including islands in Caribe and Barcelona Spain..its been a great life and hopefully much more ahead.
Several years ago a long lost fellow Scarboroughite AMALIA LOVATT and I managed to link up once again. We spent a great day together with her husband of many years George and mine Franco..reminisssing about the great days at Scarbrough. Amalia and George have been living in St. Thomas B.W.I. for over 20 years and have a great place there.
I often think of the amazing school days and have some incredble memories. Would be interesting to hear from you and Johnny as well. Have you kept in touch with Fredde Hartfelder at all? Theres always a smile on my face when i think back to those great days and how special life was for all.

Re: Memory of Coach Simon -- Emily Duwel (nee Stern), 21:24:14 04/26/08 Sat
In my time (1972-5), as I am assume all others preceding, we were permitted to swim down at the marble-lined olympic-sized pool located in the north-east corner of the estate -- and would do so from September until the first bitter days of November (and sometimes past, emerging blue-skinned and goose-bumped well past the changing of the leaves) and then again at the end of spring. At the age of 12/13, Coach Simon would walk up and down along the edge of the pool, while I ineptly paddled its length, patiently teaching me to perfect my crawl. I have remained forever grateful.
