Having Time Trialed continuously for 28 years and experienced most circumstances. I have long come to the opinion that we are much safer on main roads and dual carriagway courses than we are on twisty side roads. However a reasonable speed the motorist is travelling because of the twists and lack of view he has, one second no cyclist, the next second there is one. Racing at 20 plus mph means that the rider has to use both sides of the narrow lane just to negotiate the bends, a recipe for disaster. Larger roads give the motorist a longer approaching view of the rider. I can measure a 5 mile from Willoughby Dunchurch and a 7 mile Braunston Dunchurch. Regarding approaching horses, I always find it best to Whistle, the horse seems to understand a Whistle and is less likely to spook. (The Horse Whistler)
