You could look at it that way. However, I prefer to look at it from a different angle, a British angle. Appeasement never made us look soft, it just made us seem like we were trying to keep the peace. Hitler, at the time, was not a vile, repulsive megalomaniac but more of an idealist with a revolutionary idea for facial hair. I don't think that the coming of war ever made Hitler realise that he would never get his own way again, but actually spurred him on to get exactly what he wanted. Let me bring forth a quote from D-Day plus 5 (I think). 'after this unfortunate turn of events, I can see that it is my duty to bring our struggle to a successful conclusion'. This proves that Hitler, when faced with a problem tried to overcome it in his own way. Kinda explains the Battle of the Bulge dunnit.
