Hitler had the power if not through his speech but through pure terrorism. If we had gone through appeasement as you suggested, would this not have pushed Britain into years of suffering and torture? As soon as anybody disagreed with his fascist ideas surely he would have carried out any of the attrocities, as he had done with the Jews. Also Britain was far too much of a mixed country even in the thirties for many to be accepted in his 'ideal notion' of the world. There are many groups of people who would have been killed outright, i know myself I probably wouldn't have lasted two minutes as I don't fit into the role Hitler would have wanted me to play. I may have been able to behave under duress as he wished me to, but would have been persecuted for the way I look. Therefore NO i don't think appeasement was right.
