When Chamberlain got back from Munich he did say in private that Hitler thought he was stupid and that he now had Hitler in an impossible situation he was blackmailing Hitler by showing the world that Hitler had made a promise! it meant that when Htler invaded Czechoslovakia Chamberlain could do something. He needed the backing of the British people and that was one of the ways he got it! Hitler had to be given a chance to do the right thing. personally I think he was given too many chances but it was Chamberlain and his governments choice. Also Chamberlain wasn't the only Prime Minister to try appeasement others had tried it before it was the accpeted thing to do!
