Which details? First of all, very strange relation between Regina and Paul Nemenyi. It seems they never lived together.

What so strange about that? It’s not very exceptional to have a relationship and not live together. The Immigration authorities barred Hans-Gerhardt Fischer from entering the U.S.A. That must have been a difficult situation for Regina.

Secondly, the features of Fischer's face are very typical for a half-breed and not for a Jew.

That’s maybe a stronger argument but I’m not an expert. I even don’t see anything Jewish in Fischer’s appearance. That reminds me of something else. At a certain time there were rumours that Kasparov’s mother was Jewish. I don't know if it's true but it shows how important it is to claim a chess world champion to your own group.

Thirdly, it is very strange that Regina hid the truth about Paul Nemenyi even from her children (at least until 1970s). It was not in her character.

Just imagine the situation: A mother alone and she tells everybody: My husband is not allowed to enter the USA. That’s a simple clear-cut story and people like clear-cut stories. But now Regina gets a relation with Paul Nemenyi and she even gets pregnant. Apart from marrying Paul Nemenyi the easiest solution is to stick to the simple story: My husband is not allowed to enter the USA.

Forthly, I've never heard that Zurich is located in Poland.

Could you please explain why that is relevant?

Because this colourful but fictitious description from there is hard to forget:
In 1960, she moved out, leaving her teenage son alone in a Brooklyn apartment that soon
grew filthy - clogged tubs, roaches, dirty dishes.

When you are busy with chess doing the dishes is an insult. I remember Jan Timman (he is also born in 1951, like Karpov and me!) in 1968 on the Dutch television. His room was even dirtier then mine.

As for interpretation Regina's departure as 'a relief', I heard another side of the story: 'a blow', 'an orphan with still alive parents'.

Exactly! That’s an interpretation from some journalist. So what? We have to make up our own miind and for me, based on everything I know, it's more then likely that Nemenyi is Fischer's father.
