yeah, there was a site for a place that sold 'bloat kits' - basically, I always have stuff around and since I sink tubes all the time in screaming, fighting, spitting, drugged out of their minds humans, a dog is easy! hahahha... plyable tube - I have even used a small garden hose before but it needs to be very smooth on the end you stick in - it is better to find a gastric tube - sometimes called salem sump tubes - anyway, with a dog and dog food, it needs to be big - big enough for chunks of food to come out of - so that is why the garden hose worked well - you have to be able to hold the dog's mouth open - not easy unless the dog is lethargic and even then, watch out! You can tie a piece of fabric/rope whatever to both the top and bottom jaws (seperate pieces) and then either tie them to something in opposite directions or tie one and hold the other so you get the mouth open - I also have KY jelly hanging around, it makes the tube slip down easier - hold the head straight out from the dog so the neck and muzzle are on the same 'line' - insert and try to get the dog to swallow it - stroke the throat or whatever, but if it slips in with a breath and not with a swallow, odds are you will be intubating them - not easy to do, but does happen - pull back and go at it again.. anyway, don't ever shove hard against any resistance - keep pushing it forward (you can actually measure the distance from the mouth to the middle of the chest or so and have an idea how far in you are if you want - I just have a good eye for it... anyway, slip it on it until you are about in the right place and if you can stomach it, suck on the end until something starts 'coming' up - you don't have to suck until it is in your mouth! gag!!! but you will feel like you have to suck - like a thick milkshake through a straw and then lower the end of the tube below the dog's stomach level and stuff should come out.. also, sometime air/gas will push it out and you won't have to do the sucking thing! :) I just let the contents empty on their own but if you have a big salem sump tube down, you can also have a 60 cc syringe on hand and suck stuff out with that... If you meet resistance down near the stomach, it could be torsed and just pull the tube out and pray... get to the vet asap... I have done a percutaneous stick as well, but unless you know what you are doing, that can be just as deadly as bloating. I did it on a goat and it was successful...
