While there are no definitive studies that show that diet can impact the progression of PKD (either positively or negatively) it makes sense that if it's beneficial for other kidney patients, it can't hurt us. That said, it's still important to make sure you get enough protein in your diet to survive and maintain an adequate level of health and muscle mass (the general rule for kidney patients who don't require dialysis is 0.6 g/kg of body weight of protein per day).
I doubt there ever will be any studies on PKD and diet; there's no money in developing a diet especially for PKD (there's not much money in cookbooks, either, which is why it's so hard to find a cookbook that provides a listing of how much potassium and phosphorus are in recipes; they usually stop at the standard diabetes level of protein, fat and sodium).
This isn't something to try on your own. Work with a renal dietician (one who specializes in kidney diets, which requires extra training). And while it may not slow the progression of the cyst formation itself, at least you're doing something to reduce the functional burden on the remaining good kidney tissue and eating healthy! And remember not to restrict potassium or phosphorous unless your doctor specifically tells you to; you can cause more harm than good otherwise!
