I can understand some of what your daughter is going through- I was diagnosed with PKD at age 18, and my father has it as well as several other relatives. The difference for me was that my father has always had a very positive attitude. He went on dialysis about 4 years after I was diagnosed and had a transplant 8 years ago and is doing great. Please tell your daughter that I am now 34, have 2 healthy children, and am very optimistic that there will be a treatment or cure very soon. The disease had interfered with my life very little up to this point. Did your husband do what he could to preserve his health (diet, exercise, dialysis?) Many people live a long, long time after diagnosis!
