Hi,
Our daughter Meagan was diagnosed with ARPKD at 3 years old. It was so scary, I didnt think that she would live a very long life. We live an hour out of Boston and brought her to Childrens Hospital ..where she recieved wonderful care. We also went to a conference a week after she was diagnosed at the hospital - I remember listening to a college student speak of how well she was doing - and it was the hope that I needed to hear!
Meagan is now 15 - and doing fine. She is checked at Chidrens once a year - she has many cysts in each kidney, but for some unknown reason, she has normal kidney function.
She baffles the doctors there. The head of nephrology there explained it to me this way - it is all genetics...and genetic roadmaps can vary - she happens to have a roadmap that allows her to be healthy. I dont know how long this will last - but I am thankful for every year that we go to Childrens and she gets a great checkup.
She is very active.Basketball, volleyball..a typical teen.
Miracles do happen..I wish you the best for your daughter.
Sincerely.
Paula Munch
