Former Corrections Officer Sentenced to
Two Years on Drug Conspiracy Charges
APR 12 - BOSTON, Mass. - A Bellingham man was sentenced today in federal court after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute Oxycodone and cocaine.
Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Office and United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz announced that STEVEN J. MOGRASS, 43, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole, Jr., to two years in prison after MOGRASS pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute the potent painkiller, Oxycodone and one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have shown that from September-December 2009, MOGRASS, then a corrections officer at MCI Cedar Junction in Walpole, sold hundreds of Oxycodone pills and two ounces of cocaine to an undercover task force officer on several occasions at a public parking lot in Franklin, Mass.
Judge O’Toole sentenced MOGRASS to 24 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. MOGRASS has resigned from his position of corrections officer.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration with the assistance of the Internal Affairs Unit of the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, MCI Cedar Junction.
