I can describe what we've paddled/sailed...

Mostly the east shore (or perhaps better said, the Laguna Madre side of the island) is mostly non-marsh. I hesitate to call it beach because the dune grasses grow right to the waters edge in must places. You can pull up to shore just about anywhere along there, but the growth is pretty thick in some places. There are some areas that look like tidal flats, but are actually just places where rainfall collects.

btw: I asked some Corpus locals and they say it's currently not very busy at Bird Island. That will change over the Memorial Day weekend since it is a holiday and the time frame for the US Open/Velocity Games (a national windsurfing race among other things).
