Technically, there were three extreme highs in pro-wrestling:

1) the original Hogan/WrestleMania era when one Fed gained national and international exposure.
2) the era of the nWo. That was farking hot! I recall there was even a porn movie made called nude World order. When the porn industry starts parodying you, you've made the big-time. Anyway, the nWo era segued into . . .
3) the Stone Cold/attitude era.

When they were simultaneously at their highest, WWF and WCW were rating 6.5's - that's 13 ratings points. Now WWE is managing low 3's.

I can accept that some fractions of those 9 points were made up of hardcore WCW fans who simply switched off when the company went bust and bandwagoners who only tuned in when pro-wrestling was hot, but what about the rest?

I look at pro-wrestling in the modern era much more simply. It's action/drama, like any other action/drama you'd catch on TV. But once you start producing poor storylines, people tune-out - it happens to TV shows all the time.

Obviously, any show is allowed their lows, that's the natural order of things, but WWE have to smarten up if they really want to resurrect themselves. Right now, they've been in their slump for far too long to continue with the measures they're already employing, (i.e. Trip as champion - again , JBL as champ, Undertaker, etc.).
