Subject: What I don't understand is why do people need to use words like "gay" or "faggot" to say somebody is stupid? Why not just say "stupid" or something similar? Using "faggot" for that purpose IS a slam against gay people because it equates doing something bad with being gay...

Just as you would never say (I'm assuming) "don't act like a n****r" why say "dont act like a faggot"?

There has always been the issue of black people using the n-word among themselves and whether its ok for a white person to use the word in the same way. Personally I see it as a simple issue: doesn't matter what color I am, I don't use the word either way. Same goes for words like faggot. I know gay people who use the word among themselves or to describe themselves. If that's how they want to describe themselves then so be it. But I do not use the word in either way because I find it offensive.

In my opinion it would be wise to get out of the habit of using such words at all, even in a joking manner. There are far more intelligent things one can say.
