(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum's gay baiting seems to be playing well with his constituents. A new poll shows his approval rating unchanged at 55 percent.

It has however affected undecided voters. When taken separately the Republican senator from Pennsylvania's disapproval rating went from 20 percent to 33 percent among undecideds between April and May.

The statewide survey was taken by the Connecticut based Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Last month, in an interview with the Associated Press that infuriated gays and lesbians, Santorum likened homosexuality to bigamy, polygamy, incest and adultery. (story)

"The folks back home in Pennsylvania are largely unconcerned about Sen. Santorum's remarks about homosexual activity," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Polling institute.

Richards said Santorum's views appear to be in line with the mainstream of Pennsylvania voters.

Asked whether they "personally believe" that homosexual behavior is morally acceptable or morally wrong, 58 percent said it is wrong and 27 percent said it is acceptable. Fourteen percent were undecided.

Asked whether they thought homosexual relations between consenting adults should be legal or not, 45 percent of the respondents said they should be legal, 35 percent said they should be illegal and 19 percent were undecided.
