Subject: How to kick the US where it really hurts
In reply to: Drew Greyfox 's message, "Federal Deficit Could Be Largest Ever" on 18:49:17 05/12/03 Mon

The current USA are entirely living on foreign money. They are owing around $4 trillions to the rest of the world. Quite a lot actually to France and Germany, who both bought up million after million of dollars in the 1970s to keep the dollar from plummeting into nonexistence because of the economic desaster the Vietnam war caused for the USA.

A while ago I heard an interview on the radio with a guy who is a staunch republican, former Bush supporter and voter, now a strong opponent. He's an economy consultant for some UN subunits and he is suggesting sanctions against the USA. He thinks the international community should throw their US treasure bonds on the money market which would take care of the Bush mob and US hegemony within minutes. A very enticing thought.... the only problem is that this sanction wouldn't really hurt Bush and the super-rich, just as sanctions didn't hurt Saddam. Just as in Iraq it would be the people who would have to suffer. I mean, a little lesson for Bush supporters wouldn't hurt but nobody would want to ruin them. But giving Bush his walking papers ... what a wonderful dream.
