Might be. If enough people are interested, and enough people are interested in holding one out in California, I'll set it up - I've spent the last 20 years doing work in the conference / trade show industry, and I have some contacts with local hotels and such. Heck, if the interest is really there, I could probably set up something in the Anaheim area, allowing people a chance to do to Disneyland.

Let me know, folks.

I was stationed at CAB from 7/72 through 6/79 with a little time in thailand in there some where. When my family and I returned in 75 I rented a house around the Clarkview area and there was a SP living in the house that was rotating back to the states. He had a BIG dog that he had to do sometning with so he ended up coming with the house. I don't recall the SP's name but he said the dog was called "Booze" (very approaite) and was once a K9 dog. When we left the PI for the last time I passed on this fine dog to friend of mine at work (PMEL)CRS sqd. I often wonder if he's still in the PI.
Booze was a shepard/doberman mix and pretty big. Had the markings of a doberman but longer hair like a German shepard. When we got him he came with a GI issue collar and leash (large). He was our on site protection system. We never experienced any thievery either off base or on base. He would never say a word to a round eye, but let an unknown philipino near the fence and he would get his hair up and all 150 pounds would be climing the walls. He also had some unique training, If you shined a flashlight at something he would "attack" it. It was actually more of a game with him as he never bit anyone, but when you get 150 pounds of big teeth in you lap you don't argue. I had to hide the flashlights at our house as my girls enjoyed showing their friends this unusal trait. Our house girl and yardboy took great pride in walking booze around the neighborhood, as they came by everyone else moved to the other side of the street. He was actually very mild mannered and never bit anyone. I would have liked to brought him back but figured he had spent most his life in the PI so why spoil it. If I could of I might have stayed too.
Enjoyed your link and will be back
Thanks

I am going to give some of you something to think about in regard to Bob. It is a given he was a very good friend of mine and I served with him proudly and admired the man and have mourned his death since that horrible day. Things do happen and it was unfortunate Bob was killed but what if he hadn't died? Would there have been the same sentiment then? I remember one handler, Don Hanley, that kept two female handlers from being eaten alive by there own dogs because he held one of each of there dogs in each arm from attacking them and he was badly bitten and scarred from that. Noone remembers that do they? Another handler had a huge spider drop inside his BDU top and bite him on the waist line and had to be rushed to the base hospital. They had no idea what kind of spider it was. Another dog was bitten in the neck by a poisnonous snake. The dogs head swelled to the size of a basketball. Did anyone remember that? Do any of you, especially those of you that weren't in country at these times remember how bad things were and could have been? Do any of you remember in 1976 the GI that had a motorcycle accident with a Jeepney downtown that left his left leg hanging on only by a piece of skin? That later had to be amputated. Those things aren't remembered are they? Please take time and remember the people that didn't die and that may still have scars today of what they did there. Perhaps Bob was lucky, he didn't suffer much. This part may cause problems. Did he do the right thing, was he paying attention, did he make a mistake that cost him his life, where was he, where was his dog? Was the official report accurate or did the powers that be sugar coat what happened? Everyone, including myself was touched by his death but I worked the streets in civilian law enforcement 14 years after the PI and I have seen my share of killing and death. All I ask is to keep an open mind on what may have happened. It was a horrible tradgedy no doubt. I lost a great friend that day and it hurts to this day and I still think about it. I have noticed that many of you that include your thoughts were not even in country at the time. To all of you that knew Bob and were in country I sincerely don't want to offend any of you. And this statement that I have made is my own opinion and I don't want, in any manner, to undermine the tradgedy of Bob's death. It was brutal, needless, and senseless. I still have dreams of it but am trying to move on. I appologize to his relatives and am heartly sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to them, and my heart goes out to the families that lost their husbands, sons, brothers, fathers, sisters, or any other relation that were killed or injured in any of the other conflicts the US has been involved in. One last thought, it was estimated that during the police action in Vietnam the K-9 teams saved over 10,000 GIs from being killed. Perhaps Bobs death saved more lives that the giving of his! Dedicated to my friend and fellow handler, Rest Well Bob.

Would like to locate some old friends form law enforcement and security. If you know of any of them, would appreciate you letting me know. They would have been there between 1971 and 1972. Frequented the "Starlight" club and the "County Corner" both in Angeles City. There was of course the New York Club. I am looking for Mike Freeman (From Traffic - Motorcycles / He was in the very first group to get motorcycles). Soaper, Knolte, and a guy with a hard to spell rusian name: Alexander Wassesian (Security), Harlow (Bomb dump), and another Jones (Investigations flight). My gosh it has been so many years that my memory fades me. I can not even remember my old room mate's name, but I remember he ws white, wore glasses, and from a small place right outside Tinker AFB, OK. Isn't it funny the things you remember. I knew several of the handlers also, even though I worked primarily L.E. post, you guys made it a lot safer when you were out there with us. It always made our night when we heard you guys were busy. I personally have slapped many a flare in that bomb dump. Gotta go for Now. Take care guys and gals, for you are my brothers and sisters, my comrades.

By the way, I think you're looking for Harwell from the Bomb Dump, not Harlow. Is that right? If so, I haven't heard from him. Probably dead by now, although he was one tough ol' Cherokee.

I was stationed at Clark in 71-72 and again in 74-75. I was in Law Enforcement and spent most of my time in the bomb dump or on base patrol. I remember popping a few slap flares (or what was refered to as "Beek Seeking Missles)myself in that dump. I am still in close contact with Kevin Soper if anyone remembers him. As far as "making to much of the death of Bob Gray", The more that it is mentioned, the more careful present and future handlers wil become. Look at CNN now days and almost every day we learn of a new death of one of our sons. These men and women need to know that we love and respect them more than they will ever know. Most of us have been there and have witnessed the world problems first hand. Think of what itis that is being protected. I salute Bob for his efforts during that time. I never knew him, but I have a very high respect for him, as I do all of our military. Hell yes, drive it home!!!!!! In all due respect, Bob Gray was an individual that has come to represent alot more than just the death of a K-9 handler. Bob represents a time that we were all a part of, a time that will never return.

When I was at Clark (81-83)Bob's legacy gave the MWD handlers something that made the mosquito's and the rain and the snakes a little more tolerable.

Bob Gray was a Hero and He needs to be remembered that way.

How many of these people that have died were MWD handlers? How many more were killed in the PI? Given the respect that this site and it's members hold for Bob Gray, I feel that this type of comment is inappropriate and again, I mean that with all respect. I'm somewhat surprised that more of the the handlers familiar with this site haven't commented.
If you want to start a site that honors all of those other people then start it, the people that run this site might even be willing to help you give your respects to more of those people that you speak of.

To be completely honest with everyone I think you are making way too much of the death of Bob Gray. A lot of our brothers and sisters paid the ultimate price way before Bob did. Please pay your respects to them as well as him but do not forget him either. We all did our part and not one of us should be forgotten or not rememebered for what we did. We are all brothers and sisters and let us remember that. He was lost but just think, anyone of us could have been, so goes the story. RIP Bob

The day I left PI I cried, to many really good friends I had to say good bye to. I've always had a warm spot in my heart for the 2 years that I spent in PI, during my years in the Air Force and Iowa Air National Guard- 132nd SPF, I was furtune enough to run into several old friends from PI at other base that I was at. I retired from the Iowa Air National Guard, NCOIC of Law Enforcement in 1997, and the Des Moines Police Department this year (2003) as an Bomb Technician, yes I still have all of my fingers. Mike,

Bill Louk,

You may not remember me but I served with you on Cflt from Oct. 1977 to Jan. 1979. Try using the Glock Model 23 >40 caliber and you will get 15 Bangs instead of only 11. Just found this web sight and read you message. Great sight. Brings back a lot of memories.

I have Lupus and at times it atttacks me like the elephant grass at Mabalacat and FM washout. Dave can you hook me up with Hetzel-I served under him in RP in 76-77.

I understand by way of David Hetzel (Former Sq Cmmdr) that Ray had made LTCOL and was still as is John Probst. Ray and I were very close as well as Harold Gilbert who was a SSgt at that time. Can't locate either of them. Ray married a PI National while I was there and Gilbert was married to a Latino lady. Good time then. Thanks for you contact...........David

David, I was assigned there Aug 72 thru Nov 74. Got there right before the typhoon and martial law. I remember Gilbert and John Balback was the Kennel Master, Marrero was in training and John Hulme was my flight chief.. If memory serves me, I ran into Ray AFTER he got his commission but I just don't remember where. Too many San Miguels... I'm going to have to find all my old pictures and dig out the ones from PI. I know I have one I took of Truttling and Mantei in a truck.. Will have to see what else I can get out. Glad to get a response here.. Take care.. Ed

Ed, You and I were there at the same time. I had to go to the kennels to get the dogs to safe haven during the typhoon. I had a cerfew pass while I lived off base in Carmenville. John Balback was my first kennel Master and John Marrero was the training NCO. I worked Kurt, krissy and trixi while I was in the field and letter went to kennel support. Do you remember Walter Pinkston. Also do you remember what that female's name was that was the first one that we ever had in the dog section. I beleive the picture of the unidentified femalr is her. Talk about your walk down memory lane. I actually found this site several years ago, but as with a lot of things, and many PC crashes, etc... it got lost. I've now found it once again and my walks can continue on. I have way too many memories of my tour at Clark, even some that were clouded by too many shots of Tequila and San Miguel chasers. I roomed with Bobby Yee and drove the dark blue 62(I think) Ford Fairlane. It had the fold down back seat so we could get our "dates" thru checkpoint.
I could write a book in here, but for everyones sake, I will try to keep it short. I will be searching for the pictures I took while there, and if anyone has ever heard from Tom Rich, let me know. Jeff Behrle is retired living in Wichita Falls, Bobby Yee is in Hawaii and I'm retired living in Missouri of all places. Would love to hear from any of my old buddies from way back when. Everyone have a wonderful holiday season. Ed

This is a great site that brought back many memories. I didn't make it to Clark until 1982,(I had to do a year in Turkey to earn that priviledge!) and I wasn't a dog handler. I was on Horse Patrol and since no one else wanted us K-9 took us in. Since we attended K-9 guardmount and worked mostly the same posts,we got to know all the handlers real well. With the dog release policies at the time, we would usually work the horses and dogs together. These teams were unbeatable! We would run down intruders and they would see the dogs and horses and wouldn't know what to be more afraid of. I saw the most awesome GSD at Clark and still remember him clear as day, Ranger was handled by SrA Duey. Over the years I have had two personal GSD's both named Ranger! I left Clark and the USAF in 1985, to join the USMC as a M.P.. Got out in 1991, and tried my hand as a civilian for 7 years before joining the Ca.Army National Guard as a "grunt". I moved to Houston, Tx. in 2001, and now find myself back in the USAF as a full-time 147th SFS AGR Cop or Security Forces member as we liked to be called now. I was in Kuwait from 11/2002 to 6/2003 and we had K-9 around. As in the P.I. the dog handlers were my best friends and yes they still get the dirty end of the stick when it comes to shifts. All our dogs were Bomb dogs and unlike the dogs at Clark, these dogs got to leave with their handlers. Sorry to be so long winded but WHAT A GREAT SITE!

Hello...
You may not remember me...or what I even did there.
I was one of the student kennel attendents during 1977-78. Shirley Rodgers was another student kennel attendent. We would come in to clean birdcages, pads and kennels after school for credit. I was 15-16 years old, impressionable, and eager to learn. I grew close to alot of the dogs, and have lasting memories of many of the men and women who served the K-9 Corps. Some of you don't realize how much you helped me or just made a lasting impression, like Sam Page and Dianna Lieber. Coming here reminded me a lot of why I am who I am today. Thanks for making this website.

I just found this site today, 7-15-03, and I nearly fell out of my chair. I was on "D" Flt with Ron Steetle, Lowell Hinkle, Christopher Conrad, Billy Walker, Greg Davis, Joe Gaines, God I wish I could remember all the names. I was one of the guys that put the very large "Boa" in the trash can at the cantina, slammed the lid on it and TSgt Small heard the thump, he jerked the lid off, the snake popped out like Jack in the Box, TSgt Small hit the ground on all fours, and I nearly got court-martialed. I was in the P.I. from March '75 until Aug '76. "Keller" was my dog, I brought him over from Okinawa. I also worked with Sylvia Pinion, and Ellen Anderson. If my name sounds familiar to anyone, please send me an e-mail, I would love to talk to anybody that was there during that time period. I do remember "Sykes", and I can't remember if he was our Flt leader or Greg Davis was. I think Davis was, I know he made SSgt while I was there. Anyway, just wanted to say "Howdy from Texas" and man it was great to find this site. Thanks Marc, for a job well-done. Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Two days ago, two units from Robins AFB were deployed (classified locations) Along with these people, there has to be security. That means our new brothers are going into harms way (probably for the firse time). Some of us have been there already (vietnam, cosovo, kawait and Desert Storm. My 25 year old son is close by in the Navy on a sub. There guys and gals need our thoughts and prayers now more than ever. Most of the troops in Ga. are going (Ga is home to the special forces for the Army at Ft. Benning) Also Ft Stewart is home to a lot of reserve and Nat'l Guard. I pretty sure that Dog Handlers are in the mix. Before to retire tonight or any night for awhile, include these members of our family in you thoughts and prayers. God Bless you. David

Senator Byrd,
As a retired Naval Officer, with two Gulf carrier deployments under my belt, I find your criticism of President Bush's visit to the Lincoln offensive in the extreme! This is the first time that the Commander-in-Chief took time out of his busy wartime schedule to pay a visit to thank those who served in the line of fire, in way that was both dramatic and meaningful to those on the carrier. Perhaps if LBJ got off his fat ass to do something similar, our troops' morale in Vietnam might not have been so low.As a Naval officer, I am extremely sensitive to styles of leadership. That is, after all, our stock in trade. And it was not lost on me that the President spent about thirty seconds shaking hands with the Admiral, CO, and CAG (If you don't know these abbreviations just look them up in your Funk & Wagnalls!). He then spent the next forty-five minutes putting himself at the disposal of the people who make that ship work, the yellow shirts, the green shirts, the purple shirts, the chiefs, the sailors. If you don't know the significance of those colored shirts, look it up in your Blue Jacket's Manual. Not dressed out in formal uniform (I understand at Bush's request), but in their greasy, smelly, sweaty working uniforms... working a flight deck is hot, hard work. And yet he, in his flight suit, put himself at their disposal, this was their moment for 19 or 20 something year old kids a few years out of high school, to get a picture of themselves with the President of the United States, his arm draped around their shoulder. That is a moment that those kids never dreamed would ever happen to them, maybe not even when they knew he was coming aboard. Surely, he would see the brass, not the troops. But it was the troops to whom he gave his time... and it was the most natural moment in the world. You might have thought it was a family reunion, and in a way, it was... Bush is one of them, the common man, and while he is still the most powerful man on the planet right now, he hasn't lost his touch for them.Attached are some photos that I, for one, intend to treasure. Was it a political moment? What moment of a president's life is NOT a political moment? Was it grand standing, to come in to an OK pass to a 4 wire, a bit high in close, correcting, left of centerline? Well, hell, he didn't fly the approach anyway, though I understand from the pilots who flew him that he did a pretty good job at formation flying, tucked in close for a lead change. You can always tell a fighter pilot, you just can't tell him very much. And apparently after thirty years, it all comes back, with a little coaching, I am sure. Frankly, I would have liked to see him come aboard in an FA-18, but the Secret Service vetoed that, and Bush accepted their judgment... again, a mark of a good leader. If you had spent some time in the service, instead of the Klan, you might understand the significance of that moment to all the men and women aboard the Lincoln, and indeed to all the men and women in the service who shared that moment vicariously. But you chose the bedsheet instead of the uniform, and so you don't. I am half-tempted to move to West Virginia just so I could vote against you in your next election.

Dear Folks:

Once again the establishment has stoned you. You need to put a flower in the barrel of your M-16 and fight for "World Peace." Wake up a smell the coffee! Listen to Rosie O'Donnell for once in your life. I traded in my Air force ribbons for a tie die peace tee-shirt. Peace is the only choice. We don't need more guns, we need more love! The service men should be allowed to grow their hair to their knees and preach the peace message.

Give peace a chance!!!!

I was born on July 1970 so I believe my father was in the Clark air base between 1968-1970.
I would really appreciate it if you could give me any information of my father. I am now a family man and need no financial support..just need to know my roots.
Thanks again.

The Difference Between The Liberal and Conservative "Debate" Over The
War On Terrorism:
Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small
children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around
the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand
is a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he
reaches you and your family. What do you do?
__________________________________________________________________
Liberal Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man
look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring
him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about
the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife
out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible
he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or
would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold
on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to
a conclusion.

Conservative Answer:
BANG!
____________________________________________________________
K9 Handler's Answer:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click... (sounds of
clip being ejected and fresh clip installed)
Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice grouping Daddy!"

There are only 9 bangs. The Glock 40 Mag holds 10 rounds with one in the tube that makes 11 bangs.

I also don't ever forget Bob gray and the sacrifice that he made for our nation and most people in the U.S. at the time never heard of what happened. I grew up a lot during that time and I have never forgotten the friends that I made. Just remembering the good times I had as a young dog handler in the P.I..

Told a Clark AB drug dog story to a friend tonight. Fate that I would find your site while searching for which soul band played concert at Clark AB on/about July 4 in either 1976 or 1977. Dog story involved a confrontation between 3d Munitions Maintenance Squadron dorm residents and drug dogs/handlers going through the dorms. Problem started when dorm residents threw tennis balls down the hallways to distract the dogs... Much more to the story... Can anyone remember what bands played at Clark AB in 1976 and 1977? If you can email peonyman@aol.com. Thanks.
