...and Yes, Kona B090 the best dog I ever handled was put down in 1989 and is buried there (hip dysplasia). I have a pic of him if you are looking for historical information.

Decades later and I still miss that animal. I loved that dog and for the record he kept his stupid handler from walking into a cobra den.

Mr. Rod Deang,

I was stationed for two tours at Clark the first one was from Feb 72 to May 73 (which I refer to as the 'Animal House' years) and Nov 74 to Feb 75 (of which I tried repeatedly to get out of K9 and was only partially sucessful- flucuated between Resource Protection and TDY's to Kunson, Korea (K9), Tianan AS, Taiwan (LE) and Ton Son Nhut AB (LE-last two weeks of the evacuation with trips to Wake Isle, Gaum, and of course the debacle and chaos at Clark) When I first got there I noticed a civilian guard at the rear of the kennels. That was the area between us and the'Jungle Survival School'. I remember asking 'Herme' one of the civilian kennel staff what was going on and he explained to me that the guard was watching the gravesite of one of the dogs for three days. He further went on to say that the aborigines fron Negrito Village would otherwise dig up the fresh remains and eat them. I took his word for it as I had seen them raid dumpsters for some really bad things and was told they had a standing agreement of having free access to our refuse in exchange for services during WW2. I also remember that there were no grave markings at all. Towards the end of my first tours there was a'cementary' but it was located at the end of the enclosed obstacle course, not across the street. The area that is now the 'cementary' was a staging area where we groomed the dogs before guardmount and loaded up in the deuce and a halves and the larger open area was used to fly remote control airplanes. For those who may be interested I left CAB on my second tour and went to Norton AFB, got discharged (1977-extended my enlistment to cross train into management analysis in which I got the training and not the assignment), went to San Bernardino PD, quit after a very short time came up north and went to work for Chevron at the Richmond Refinery and retired after 26 years.

Hope this helps. I'll dig up my old photos and post them on this site.
