Fair point I agree, re the gearbox issue and shared engine oil. I guess its personal choice at the end of the day which is fair enough. I think if I had a big bank balance I would probably go for bike specific oil, but I suspect the car oils are OK.

I did read an article on the web about this very issue. I chap in the USA tested a bike for wear using bike then car oil, he concluded there was minimal difference.

As you say the good old B.L. cars were excellent at sharing oil, I've have a fair share of Mini's MG's and my parents had Allegro's and Austins1100, the engines were fine; they simply rotted away!
