Subject: 9 year old autistic son - need support

HI,

My son is 9 years old, autistic, mostly gentle and sweet. Not toilet trained at all, barely speaks at all other than echolalia. (He can "ask for something like juice" that is about it) He is in public school special class. My wife is very religious and in a deluded way expects nothing but complete healing. She won't even let me say the word "autism" for the most part. That is the hardest part for me because she does not grieve with me or talk about the future outside of miraculous healing. I am wondering from others what kind of future do you think these kids are going to have? Will I need to institutionalize my son?
