<<<>>>Acutally i was speaking to a paricular person, not you or someone i dont know...

>>>>If you could have a brain transplant so you could have a higher IQ, would you? Would you still be the same person? Our brains are different from our limbs.<<<<<< i have a fairly high iq now so i wouldnt go for a brain
transplant ;-) and i wouldnt want a brain transplant for my son, you are correct that this would not be the same person.

Biomedical intervention is not about transplanting the entire brain , its about correcting the very real aspects of the brain that arent functioning correctly because of physical disfunction.

Is there a term for curbies with Anti-curbies qualities? :-)

I want a cure , not ashamed to admit it.Because i am of the opinion that autism is not a state of being, it is label of symptoms of a body that isnt working properly...

At the same time i share the sentiments that you have stated for increased opportunities for housing and social inclusion. I do not subject my son to a room of isolation at home or at school. He is included in society, school and i work hard to help others understand him.

>>>>But if he got *rid* of autism, he woulnd't be the same person.>>>
For one thing, my son wasnt born with autism. His autism is vaccine induced autism. And yes he would be a different person, if he hadnt been injured or if he were cured... just as everyone becomes different without hardships or when they expand their knowledge, or just maturation , getting older and wiser....staying the same is stagnating, humans dont do well under these circumstances...

>>> "Diseases like cancer are preferable to living like this -">>>

Autism according to latest research IS proving to be a "disease" of the Body, just as cancer is. WHen the bodies biochemical "makeup" is not functioning properly, behaviors, inability to communicate, chemical imbalances, vitamin deficencys, symptoms of autism are the result.

The brain is NOT working as it was intended, and allowing the brain to continue to not work when there is a way to make it work - like it was intended, is wrong....it would be the same as denying cancer treatment, or diabetic treatment, or heart surgery....

>>>>And i think
>Daniels thoughts would be very similar, we will know
>when he gets his voice...I highly recommend trying non-verbal communication techniques as well.>>>>

When i speak of "voice" i dont mean verbal utterance. Tho i would love to hear his voice and thats me being his mom and loving the sound of my NT sons voice, so yes i would like to hear his actual voice, i would like to hear him sing a song... but what I usually mean is communicating thru any means possible. I have worked hard implementing sign language, pecs, voice output, at home and at school. He doesnt seem to get sign language much (doesnt have the motor skills i dont think, tho with repetition he eventually either gets it or close to it) but he does do well with pecs and voice output. ANd hopeing to teach him even more with the pixwriter computer program. And i intend to continue to help him expand his usage of these and not simply wish him to speak with his vocal cords.

>>>>>*blink* Because if she really wanted to she could? This doesn't make sense. Her 'syndrome' is that she adamantly wishes to be taken as human and treated as such despite her disability<<<<

yes it makes sense, because with biomedical intervention many aspects of the disability of autism can be eliminated...
thats right
cured

with BIOMED ...screaming can no longer be an issue, inablity to move when you want to no longer an issue, inability to say what you want to say and being unable to say it no longer an issue....free to speak and move and not have all these conflicting bodily functions fighting what YOU want to do ! freedom to be who you want to be not controlled by behaviors that you cant control ...

I agree its right to wish to be taken for the human you are and treated as such, but to embrace your disability when there are options to overcome that disability is just unfathomable to me, its hiding behind that disability...

and i have to ask why again, WHY would anyone want to be disabled if they didnt have to be...

>>>>>It's your ableist viewpoint. <<<
<<<<<>>> only impossible if people say it is impossible, or think it is impossible or have such low expectations that makes it impossible...or perhaps there is a way it just hasnt been found yet....

>>>>>>The neuroplasicity is simply not there to create 'normal' socialization, sensory processing or language processing.<<<<<<<< this has been proven by current research how wrong that is...with MRI and PET scans scientists have proven that the brain continues to have plasicity late into the teen years and theorize now(because of this new data that even longer is possible).....and with stem cell research more is even possible ...

given the opportunity anything is possible, without the opportunity there is only the impossible....

I appreciate you taking the time to write this , i enjoyed reading it and intend to read it a few more times so i can fully understand what your saying (which is typical of me to understand more than on first reading)..i think sharing your knowledge and experience is good for the "cause" you speak of as well.

And i do try to understand more so i can help my son ...

Cheryl
