Hi scap,

was nervours last night.
something didn't go according to plan.
something happened.

cathy, was supposed to send one of her co-workers to bring the rest of lg's speech.
see, dont have a printer, and so had to email the speech (in sections, as completed each section... it is divided up into sections... some of which were titled "indirect contact", "sensory seeking" (titled them after photos that put up on the overhead... and for example, when wanted to talk about sensory issues, and sensitivites in general -such as sensitivities to meds. that have etc. put up photos that would be good triggers for mine mind to stay on topic.. so the 'sensory seeking' was a photo of son, at age 20 months, doing headstands ).

anyways... the sectinos were emailed, and then yesterday was supposed to be the last three sections (had 7 sections all together... it is lots of talking you need to do... to fill up a whole hour of a speech).....
her coworker was supposed to bring it yesterday.

they had a chance of plans.
it turns out the decided that he would pick up lg in the am (he was coming at 5:30AM) and so therefore he was going to bring the final sections then.

panic set in.
hadnt the final 3 sectinos, and didnt have any of the photos on the overhead... to view... before today.

and NEEDED them.

hadnt yet decided which sections will go in what order... knew the intro, and conclusion sectins... but the stuff in the middle.. .didnt decide which order to put them in...
WAS planning on putting them together AT HOME last night..
when could see the sections.. in front of the eyes...
because have a hard time doing this on teh computer.
(this is why printed it out, in sections.
each section was stapled together as if it was one little speech).

so, was up until 1 AM worrying about it.
it felt like didnt even want to do the speech.
had prior to this, arranged, and cleaned the nice clothes that wore to the funeral, because wante dto be "presentable". instead of the large winter felt packs, the sweat out fits or shorts that always wear... lol
didnt even want to take those clothing...
didnt even want to have a shower...
felt like it was just all uselesss...
felt like had lost all interest in the whole event, and the whole speech...
once that one thing happened...
that the speech parts weren't here last night.

but, got up at 4AM... did have a shower.
decided that will do this for the honour of mine brother...
if nothing else...
decided that now that have found mine voice...
a voice which he never had...
and never could speak out for himself...
to protect himeself, or to ask for help....
and realized there will be others like him... still today...
and so then felt like could get up.
and shower.
did it.

we drove the fast.
support worker said, dont tell anyone what time we got there.
;)

we got there about 1 hour prior to the speech.
which was perfect for lg.
by then was able to check out this special disppaly for a snoozelon room...
and stimmed out on all the stuff they had set up.

put on the ear phones... and listened to mine music of mozart plaing mooonlight sonata...
to calm.
cathy set up teh area.... where spoke.
she checked out thelights..
couldnt turn off all the lights, ebcause the audience would be in teh dark.
realized, that someday, need to get perscription sunglasses if am goign to do this again more then once.
because cant function without the glasses very well... but also, cant tolerate the lights they had there.
which is how all thelights are usually in those kinds of facilities.

was able to fix up the speech.
in order tha twanted ot... after being in that snoozelon room dispplay.

wow, they had these fibre optic lights that would LOVe to have... but they cost $1500 !
too bad,
could really use them.

anyways...
the person who came to ask what would like her to ssay, to introduce lg.
didnt know.
asked cathy what should sy.
asked her "what are the choices A B C ?"
she said she had no choices.
got cathy to help wiht the intro.
she just did a plain intro.
who am, that am on spectrum, with two spectrum kids, and am single parent.. .and where am from.
taht was enough.

paced around listening to mozart while they got more chairs.
the audience was full and there were people standing along the walls.
so time spent on getting more chairs.

then more people came.
and more.
people were standing at the doorway.

the intro started anyways.
took off the headphones, and put up the first photo.
it was the one titled "autistic vision" (it is on andrew's website if you wana see it).

started the speech.
liked the fact that coudl pace throughout the front of the section where spoke.
could pace and carry the speech and talk.
it worked good like that.

spoke lots, a whole hour was filled.
did all the over heads in correct order (had printed up 6 photos in a copy centre [imagine, the copy centre charged $20 ! to print up 6 photos on overhead sheets! GEESH!.. ooh well, it was in investment well worth it.. .lol)

so, also, what had said at the beginnig. and this is some good suggestions form another list that am on...
a list where adults on spectrum teach professionals more about us....

anywasy.. there got suggestions about what to do with question period.
was worried about it...
because couldnt anticipate all the types of questions and what they might be about.
tried the best that could..
to imagine what they might ask about.

anyways... this is what did about the questions.
told the people, taht they could write their questions down on paper.. and their email address also.
then, if there were questions that couldnt answer at that time.. so quickly.. could then email them an answer..
OR if they chose to ask in person.. they might get lg to answer "pass" which meant that couldnt answer then, but they could ask in email.

so this worked.
when was done./
they all stood and clapped.
it was wierd.
because didnt sing, or dance... or make a performance.
so who knows what they were up to.

then the questions started.
it was an easy set of questions ...
re: ABA/IBI, dietary interventions, educational issues, and "what helped you" to connect with the world outside of mineself... that kind of stuff.
very basic.
there were only two difficult questions.
1) do you have an help from your family?
2) do you have any siblings.
that was DIFFICULT.
ALMOST said "pass".. BUT didnt rememebr to...
(now know, that the 'pass' thing wont work, when am faced with a question that DO KNOW the answer to right now.. questions that CAn reply to, wihtout thinking about them.. )
anywayas...
told them, that HAD a twin brother who passed away at age 6 "from an injury" (well, guess getting your head bashed in by your family members for being such a "retard" IS an "injury" .. is it not?)
also told them that had one sister who is 20 yrs younger and one who is 10 yrs younger.

then, after the "formal" question period...
the people started rushing.
realized that the walls were again full of people.
these people all had stood there for an hour and a half.
the doorway was full of poeple who started rushing in.
thought that was late in getting out of the room... for the next presentation.
well, wasnt.
they had stood out in the hallway...
listening.
they ALL came in at that time then...
a herd of them! ACK!

well, several people started asking "do you provide a transcript of your speech?".... the 7th person who asked for the transcript was a man who upon asking, and hearing that would send it to him in email replied "you should have a fee".. told him that didnt know anything about fees.
told him that allready paid a fee of $20 dollars to get all this material printed for the overheads... and he said "no a fee for your transcript".
told him that didnt know anything about that either..
only thing that really know for fees is how much is our rent, and what the cost of our favorite foods are.
those are the only fee's that pay attention..
geesh! money money money.
anyways... some came who had no email address.
they were mennonite's.
one of them approached lg and asked if it was ok if she could give their address, and told her yes.. will go next week to a copy centre and get the speech copied for the mennonites who had no email.

then the invitations to speak started.
one woman approached and said "in the intro it was revealed that this is the largest crowd you will have spoken to... would you like to do this again, we have a large meeting coming"...
said yes, it is fine.
that didnt care how many or how few people were there.. as long as didnt have ot be very close to them...
if am in a room, where there is lots of room.. for mine body to pace and such...
dont care how many people are there.. because dont see them.

then, another one came...
and made a plan.
she was from a school board far away from our home.
(about 8 hr drive if one was to drive).
she said, that she worked for the school board, and that hey had a meeting on june 6th with 150 teachers.. she wanted to ask if would come to speak to them.
said yes.
asked if she wanted lg to prepare another speech... specifically for educators...
she said "no need. you did phenominal. I want them to hear your exact words from today".
so, told her, that the only thing is...
that since dont have much $ cant realy come there...
but IF they could arrange for transportation . (obviosuly it is far enough away, that either have to fly OR they will have to provide train and a hotel the night before the speech and the next day after the speech would ahve to leave to come home.... so think that the flying will be cheaper then the train, and two nights hotel and meals).

anyways... then, the MOST IMPORTANT audience member arrived.

a woman arrived.
she had tears in her eyes.. and her voice started breaking up in crying as she started to speak.
she said "i so much wanted to hear you speak. i was registered for this session, but i couldn't get in the room. I was out in the hallway, and the hallway filled with so many peopel in the doorway that i couldnt get close to the door way"
told her "am sorry to hear you were disappointed and didnt get to hear what you wanted to hear".
she said "im a grandmother. my 6 yr old grandson just was diagnosed with autism... I so badly wanted to hear you speak".
asked her if she had email.
told her will send her the speech in email.

then another one had come to cathy, the support worker and told her "she is excellent, do you know she can make a living doing just this, speaking".

so, that is pretty much how it went in there.
then, prepared to leave.
got rid of the fancy clothes, and got into normal clothes.
changed, and almost fell in the toilet.. lol
lost perception of space and distance(depth) and started falling towared the toilet while facing it. put out the hands, in front, and by pure luck.. one hand landed on the seat part of the toilet.. and didnt go IN the water lol)
(gosh, haventplayed in the toilet for at lest 30 yrs! LOL )

then, we started driving.
we went to wendys to get a meal.
by then it was 1:30 (speech was from 10:45 to 12:30 total).

then listened to mine favorite calming music in cathys vehicle and she didnt talk.. and let lg stim for a few hours..
plaing songs over and over.. lol

got to her office, where the other worker brought lg home.
before we got in to town, her boss called on the cell phone.
she spoke briefly wiht lg.
asking if had fun.
if it went well.
and if felt happy about it.
yes, yes and yes.

dont know.. what else to say.
think that is it.

it went well.
got to see all the evaluations.
there was a scale between 1(poor)and 5 (excellent).
got all 5's on each sheet.. except for one, where the person made it a 5+.

they gave lg a little card they made themselves, and signed it by hand.
it was a nice card.

they gave lg a gift even.
two pens.

lg
