GOSSIP

My name is Gossip.
I have no respect for justice.
I maim without killing. I break hearts and ruin lives.
I am cunning, malicious and gather strength with age.
The more I am quoted, the more I am believed.
I flourish at every level of society.
My victims are helpless. They cannot protect themselves
against me because I have no name and no face.
To track me down is impossible. The harder you try, the more elusive I become.
I am nobody's friend.
Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.
I topple governments and wreck marriages.
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartaches and indigestion.
I spawn suspicion and generate grief.
I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses.
I am called GOSSIP. Office gossip -- Shop gossip -- Party gossip -- Telephone gossip.
I make headlines and headaches.
REMEMBER, before you repeat a story, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it fair? Is it necessary??
If not, do not repeat it. KEEP QUIET.
Before you repeat a story, remember that gossip is a killer.
You see, you don’t have to actually wield a knife or know how to use a gun to be a murderer. You can murder with your words and with your heart. You can murder my causing harm to your fellow human being by destroying an association that helps others while you fight for your own rights.
Here are some statistics on murders relating to special needs children ... imagine how much worse they are when an association is financially unable to continue their hard work because a petition freezes their funding, leaving them unable to help others.
Most murder-suicides are family-related and in Canada, six in ten homicides occur in families. Half of homicide incidents are motivated by despair.
Forty-four percent (44%) of parents were suffering undue financial hardships tied directly to the child's needs, 22% of parents had their employment severely impacted or had lost their jobs due to dealing with the child's needs, and another 13% were unable to deal with the child's disorder/disability (Silverman& Kennedy, 1988; Statistics Canada 2000).
Is it still all right in the eyes of voys to sign petitions without understanding what the ramifications are? Or is it still about demanding things they feel the world owes them instead of working towards the things they need for their child?
Of course, I realize most will choose the selfishness of the first over the humanity of the latter. Petitions without foundation .... just another name for GOSSIP.
