Subject: They printed my letter, they made me add something cause they were worried about libel, and they reprinted the same article with the page 2 included...
In reply to: cheryl 's message, "Mr. Davis blames Special Education for having to cut District staff...." on Thu, Jul 03, 11:06:11am

I will type the page 2 later (the part not included in last weeks paper)its very interesting, i have a headache right now and what would take me about 10 min to type would probably take me at least an hour ....

This is my letter with what they made me add in parenthesis....oh yeah I believe ! LOL

Letter to the Editor

Regarding the recent events with the Morton School District and its problems, cutbacks on employee hours and resulting class action grievance filed by the PSE, Mr. Davis noted that it was due to Levy funds and Special Education.
As a parent of a child that is served by Special Education I felt I must respond. (I believe) Perhaps if Mr. Davis and the Morton School District did what was "right" in the beginning, rather than trying to deny what was right, Special Education wouldn't be a drain on the School Districts finances.(I believe) Perhaps if they didn't try to get away with violating rights or denying what was appropriate education the repercussions would not create unnecessary financial burden.
Consider a leaky faucet. Fix the leak right the first time you are aware of it and its done, with little financial outlay. Let it continue or try to deny the need to fix it and eventually you have to spend enormous amounts of money fixing the damage from the ensuing trickle or even flood of water ....
I do not know the extent of the trickle from other Special Education students and parents, I only know my own experiences. Perhaps there are just a few or perhaps there are many with the same experience and the same outcomes. And yes its possible I have been a drain on this school district trying to protect the rights of my child. Didn't have to be that way, and It's not by choice. I would much rather have the district provide what is appropriate in the beginning (which by the way would only have been expenses that ARE reimbursed). But they wouldn't. They let the "faucet" remain leaky. And in trying to protect my son's right to an appropriate education the burden is extended far greater than it would have been.
(I believe) The School District and Mr. Davis chooses to violate rather than to adhere. And the ensuing repercussions become far greater financial burdens than would have incurred by doing what is right.
So, Mr. Davis, do not blame Special Education..... accept the blame yourself for not doing what is right when you became aware of necessity. Accept that your own actions, the denial of rights and appropriate education for special education students, had repercussions that created financial burden.
