 Any suggestions for some good movies to rent this weekend?

We saw Chocolat this week and loved it. It's the best fairy tale movie since The Princess Bride. Be sure to have some good chocolate in the house because you'll definitely crave it by the end of the movie.

The Pledge was okay. Well shot and well acted but with a predictable story line.

What are your latest recommendations?

Have you ever seen "Ever After" with Angelica Huston? If you like fairy tale movies, this is a good retelling of Cinderella - a great deal of fun.

Ever seen "Housekeeping?" It's a offbeat film from the eighties with Christine Lahti playing an eccentric woman who takes care of two girls. Very unique. I've seen it a few times. It's one of my favorite films.

I did see Ever After and really enjoyed it.

I'll look for Housekeeping. I've never heard of it, but I do like Christine Lahti. Thanks for the suggestion. *S*

LOL, I just saw ever after and was going to recommend it. Fantastic movie.

The Mexican is pretty good too. I'm not a big Julia Roberts fan, but I liked this one. And 3000 Miles to Graceland is an awesome, mega-violent movie. Seeing Kevin Costner as a complete and total slime ball is neat. He does a great job.

I enjoyed Planet of the Apes, though that ending makes it a really incomplete movie. I enjoyed the original movie, and, when I was younger, all of its sequals. When I got older, I realized only the first movie was actually "about" anything; the other ones were just "The Further Adventures of..."

Anyway, the original is still the best of the lot. But I'd say the new one is better than the original's sequals.

But I still don't understand why the astronauts in either movie aren't surprised that the aliens speak English. Of course, in both movies it's clear why they do, but if Heston was on what he believed to be an alien planet, why didn't he ever wonder why the Apes were speaking English?

I agree that the ending left alot to be desired.:-) And, I guess I was never really clear on how all that time passed. I mean, I understand he went through a sort of time warp I guess.

I also thought they could've gotten a better actor to play the main astronaut hero role, I forget his name - but that guy has about as much character, expression and depth as a stone.:-)

As far as other movies for me, I liked 'The Mexican', '3000 Miles to Graceland', and this past week '15 Minutes'. Oh, and yes, 'Chocolat' was a rich and wonderfully engrossing tale, I loved it! I'd also really like that chocolate sauce over fowl recipe, it looked yummy! I already make a wonderful baked cinnamon chicken (hush, JeffF;-)).

Hey, I was eating breakfast when I opened your revolting message. Cinnamon chicken - just the thought makes me sick.
What did the chicken ever do to you that you would do such a thing to it? The sooner all countries sign an international convention to outlaw cinnamon from the face of the earth, the better!!!!

Hush? Well, maybe, but I haven't received that promise that you were going to come clean my desk yet. :-)

Believe it or not, the original French novel ended in a similiar way: the astronaut returns home to warn his people what could happen (apes taking over) only to find Earth already overtaken by apes.

Nonetheless, the new movie still felt very unresolved.

The time thing was the usual sci-fi technobabble..wasn't it a time storm or something?

But when you think about, it makes more sense than the original movie. Heston's ship travelled for a thousand years en route to some alien galaxy. Okay, so why does it crash off the coast of New York?

I saw The Watcher and RPM last night... RPM is a comedy about two car-thiefs... Famke Janssen and... Monica (Friend's) husband, whatever his name is... it's too early on Sunday to be thinking :)

The Watcher was *okay*, Keanu makes a pretty good slimy bad guy.

Sweet November is also Keanu, and Charliz Theron. Great movie, if you want to cry :)
