Good morning again. Can I just start out by saying that I love the personal nature of the WORD of GOD. I picked up this morning with Acts chapter six. I have read through this chapter several times...why? Because I want to hear the heart of my FATHER. This morning HE has spoken to my heart about the different hats we wear in our service to HIM. We all wear them. Your hat might be the "teacher," the "student," the "leader." Wherever and however GOD has called you to serve HIM, that is the hat that you wear. In my life, I wear many different hats. I am the Mom to my children, the wife to my husband, the sister to my siblings, the daughter to my Dad, the friend to my friends. All of these different hats carry with them different roles and responsibilities as a believer. I believe, that as a Christian our first priority is to be faithful to the FATHER in each responsibility HE has given to us.
I have struggled this week with roles and responsibilities. I became frustrated and overwhelmed. This is why I spoke about the personal nature of the WORD. Even as I was struggling on Monday and sharing my heart with my husband GOD was preparing my heart for HIS WORD this morning. Let's take a look at Acts chapter six together for a quick minute. (You might want to read Acts chapter 6 for yourself...it is relatively short and would only take about three or four minutes to read.) The first verse sets up the situation for us and in the next verses the Twelve apostles instruct the growing number of disciples to choose some men from among the group who can handle some other responsibilities that the Twelve cannot attend to because of their call to prayer and the ministry of the WORD. Let's look at verses 3-5 together.
Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the SPIRIT and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the WORD." This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the HOLY SPIRIT; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.
Perhaps you are wondering what is the point this morning. Why am I talking about this. Remember, I was frustrated earlier this week about roles and responsibilities. The FATHER said to my heart this morning, "Vicky, wear the hats that I have given YOU to wear...don't try to wear somebody else's hat." GOD had a specific role for the apostles, and HE had specific roles for the deacons that were chosen in this passage of the WORD. And Ma'am, can I tell you this morning that HE has a specific role for you to fill. My desire this morning as I have shared my heart with HIM is that I would be faithful to the roles and responsibilities HE has called me. My hats are many as I noted above...some of them overlap in responsibility and others are distinctly different. My desire is that in all of the roles I have been given the opportunity to serve in that I would be like the people chosen here in this passage...FULL OF FAITH AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. You see, when we are walking yielded to the SPIRIT of GOD, HE can use our lives to fulfill HIS PURPOSE.
Wherever you may find yourself today YOU HAVE A ROLE IN THE WORK OF THE KINGDOM. GOD has something for you to do. Are you being faithful in the role the GOD has called you to serve HIM?

Thanks for coming today? Have a great day and know that I will be praying for you throughout the day!

In HIS Grip-
Vicky
