Good morning ladies. I know that I said I wouldn't be posting this week, but I feel like I should share this with you this morning because next week I will be past this point in Exodus, and it is so good. I have come this morning to Exodus chapter 6. Up to now Moses has gone to Pharaoh and told him to let the people of GOD go. Of course Pharaoh said, "NO!" And then Pharaoh increased the work load of the people. The children of Israel went to Moses and complained...this is where chapter 6 picks up. Moses goes to the LORD and asks what seems like a reasonable question. He asked, "O LORD, why have YOU brought trouble upon this people? Is this why YOU sent me? Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in YOUR NAME, he has brought trouble upon this people, and YOU HAVE NOT RESCUED YOUR people at all."
Did you hear the accusation in that last phrase? His questions started out reasonable enough, but then in his frustration HE seems to be accusing GOD of being less than able to follow through. GOD has an answer.
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh; Because of MY MIGHTY HAND he will let them go; Because of MY MIGHTY HAND he will drive them out of his country." GOD also said to Moses, "I AM THE LORD. I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and to Jacob as GOD ALMIGHTY, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens. MOREOVER, I HAVE HEARD THE GROANING OF THE ISRAELITES, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. THEREFORE, SAY TO THE ISRAELITES: 'I AM THE LORD, and I WILL BRING YOU OUT FROM UNDER THE YOKE OF EGYPTIANS. I WILL FREE YOU from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment...
Drop down to verse 13 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and HE COMMANDED them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
Now look with me at the last verse in the chapter:
BUT Moses said to the LORD, "Since I speak with faltering lips, WHY would Pharaoh listen to me?"
This exchange between Moses and GOD started out with what sounded like a reasonable question and moved to accusation. THE LORD responded to Moses by reiterating HIS PROMISES to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and by reminding him THAT HE IS GOD. HE told Moses, I WILL DO THIS. Then over in verse 13 HE COMMANDED Moses to lead to the people out of bondage and MOSES responded with another question...WHY GOD?
Don't you just love it when you tell your children to do something and they question you? They ask things like, "Why do I have to do THAT...WHY can't YOU tell someone else to do it?!" At my house it often sounds something like this..."I don't really want to do that, why don't you make Courtney do it?" As I read through this chapter my heart seemed to say, "FATHER, help me to learn to simply obey and NOT TO ALWAYS QUESTION."
I can have a million questions every time I feel like the LORD is leading me to do something. I can ask WHY and HOW and are YOU SURE. Sometimes, I think it is OK and even good to ask questions, but ladies, the LORD had been very clear here with Moses about what HE was planning to do, AND STILL MOSES QUESTIONED.
So this morning as I close I leave you with a question. Has the FATHER asked you to do something and are you standing before HIM saying, "BUT LORD, WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS?"

FATHER, may our hearts learn to simply obey and submit to what YOU ask of us. May we learn the joy of simple obedience even when things to not really make sense in our minds. May we learn and recognize that we won't always understand. YOUR WORD says that our ways are NOT YOUR ways and that our thoughts are NOT YOUR thoughts. May we learn to accept YOUR AUTHORITY and walk with you in obedience. YOU are so good to us. YOU treat us so tenderly and with so much grace and mercy and yet we stand like spoiled children and say, "BUT WHY?" May we learn to be submissive and have the heart and attitude of the LORD JESUS. I love you and I thank for this opportunity to serve you and to share YOUR WORD with others. YOU are indeed a gracious GOD.
In the MATCHLESS NAME OF JESUS I pray. AMEN

Because I want to found obedient-
Vicky
