Subject: family history

Arthur Sutherland Newell b. 1880c Chesire is shown in 2 photos
with Navy/Merchant Marine patches for HMS Caledonia and HMS
Hearty. He claims to have left home at a very early age.
He did fight in WWI with Canadian forces. Could he have been
on the "boy-ship" HMS Caledonia at age 11 or so? Are there any records for these lads of the 1890s or very early 1900s?
