Firstly the UK is not a socialist state. Secondly, the majority of crimes commited are "NOT" with firearms. We don't want to go down the "everyone has a gun road". Once on that road you end up in a situation where everyone has a gun like you have at present making it very easy for the criminals to obtain them as well.

I agree that ours is not a Socialist State - although if Labour had come to power in the 1980s it would have been. Thankfully there was a certain lady around called Maggie. At long last though many police officers are now armed U.S. style (in fact some even more with semi automatic weapons). As long ago as when the movie "The Blue Lamp" with Dirk Bogarde and Jack Warner was made the awful reality of having unarmed police officers against armed criminals was brought home. It subsequently took the authorities half a century to face this fact.
