Subject: Craft and sewing inspiration from recycled materials

Hello All,

My use of recycled materials in my sewing and crafts, has caused me to receive many emails since I registered my website in the forums. My site has examples from new and recycled materials, designed and made by me from handmade patterns. It is growing at a continual rate as I continue to make things. I am always on the lookout for new ideas and materials.

Visitors to my site write that some of the works on my site inspire them to create something similar. They are especially inspired by the use of recycled materials in my work i.e.:

Recycled denim

Recycled men's ties

Recycled plastic grocery bags

http://paturydesign.hotusa.org/images/graphics/jpg/examples/crafts/img5.htm

People have written that they also use similar recycled materials for sewing and crafting. For instance, one of them made a beautiful bedspread (quilt) out of her grandfather's ties when he died. Another person crochets grocery bags into tote bags in different shapes.

Do you have any experience about recycled materials? Do you have any ideas of other recycled materials that can be used? Please take a moment to take the 3 to 5 question survey on my vote caster, sharing your opinions with me. Note the vote caster is simply a feedback tool and not some gimmick of the web.

Subject: Laundering a IKentucky Quilt

I own a king sized Kentucky quilt. It has a small label that says 'Handmade in Kentucky - 1986 - Donna Sharp'. My best friend purchased it in 1987 for several thousand dollars and I recently purchased it from her. It is a magnificent star quilt that has never been laundered. The problem is that it white with a red star pattern made from various calico patterns. I did not dare launder it so I took it to my dry cleaner. After keeping it for six weeks he has informed me that he could neither wash nor dry clean it because the red was running into the white. My logic tells me that someone would not spend as much time making something this lovely, especially in these colors, if there was no way to launder and preserve it. Are there any tricks to laundering a light/dark fabric combination? How do the women in Kentucky launder their dirty quilts without the colors running into one another? I would appreciate any advice anyone could offer me. Thank you.

I have a little web site: www.kywalkingstick.com .
I created the web site my self, but I could use some suggestions for improvement. This is the first web site I have ever worked on.

Also, I would appreciate any suggestions concerning creative methods of marketing the walking sticks.

Thanks,

Randy Spencer
