Well, this is like slipping into an old pair of shoes!

Our band had it's first big practice tonight and seemed like a real chore to get everyone setup, but by about 1/2 way into the practice the pipes started to settle down and the sound came together.

How much time does your band spend tuning?

We have 14 pipers and usually spend about 20 minutes tuning for a practice. For an engagment I'll spend a little longer setting drones.

We spend about the same time, but are constantly tuning and double checking as the chanter reeds shift slightly. We use Wygent and Henderson glass/carbon fibre tongues and once our drones are set, they lock in tight.

It also helps to not overplay and keep the time under control, just as you would at a comp!
